Shanti Sound was created in 2011 with a vision of sharing the uplifting and healing power of sound and song. Michelle Byrne, creative director of Shanti Sound is a musician, singer, sound therapist and yoga teacher.
In 2014, Michelle completed her Diploma in Practitioner of Sound Therapy with the British Academy of Sound Therapy (BAST) and also completed her Diploma of Therapeutic Sound in the Community with BAST in 2013, to complement her qualifications in Music received in 2007.
Shanti Sound offers regular Therapeutic Soundbaths for many organisations and activities- including Yoga Centres and Retreats, Arts Organisations, Disability Services, Staff Wellbeing days and monthly soundbaths at Port Noarlunga Arts Centre- open to general public.
Since the conception of Shanti Sound, successful events have included the 'Sounding the Chakras' and 'Sound for Wellbeing' courses and workshops, children's 'Shanti Kids' workshops, Contemporary Kirtan evenings with the Shanti Sound Collective, and one to one personal Shanti Sound consultations and Soundbaths.
Sessions can be tailored for groups or individuals to assist with connect with the voice, releasing fears around singing, gaining confidence using the voice, or simply being guided into relaxation.
Michelle performs regularly with her husband James Byrne (creator of Cosmic Tone Instruments) in their duo ‘Imijri' both in Adelaide and interstate. Known as The Wandering Minstrels from 2008-2015, some highlights for the duo have been touring to NSW in 2012, 2013 and 2014, and also performing on the iconic railway journeys aboard 'The Ghan' in 2012 and the 'Indian Pacific' in 2011. They have an EP ‘Intimate Universal Encounter’ and are currently creating a new album under the new name Imijri. www.imijri.com
Michelle loves singing harmonies and performs as a session musician for live performance and recordings. As a backing vocalist/ percussionist Michelle has worked with Tina Malia, Billy the Tree, Heather Frahn, Murray Kyle, Koti Surya and has also enjoyed the opportunity to perform at festivals and high profile events- including Byron Spirit Fest (2017) & Womadelaide (2013).
Michelle has a background in music teaching, specialising in teaching voice since 2007. She supports private singing students of all ages- from children to adults - in exploring and improving vocal technique and expression. Michelle also plays a role as a choir teacher for the South Australian Public Primary Schools Festival of Music and is a former Musical Director of The Southern Singers/Onkaparinga City Choral Society, a choir based in South Australia.
In 2017 Michelle received her Yoga Teacher Certificate of Training 200hrs with the Kundalini Research Institute.
Michelle holds a Diploma of Music and has studied Music (majoring in Voice) at Adelaide University Conservatorium of Music and at TAFE SA. She has performed in working bands since 1998 and toured both in Australia and the UK with various musical projects.
